2019 Conference

SAR's 2019 International Research Conference
June 27-29, 2019 | Burlington, VT, USA
Acupuncture Research, Health Care Policy, & Community Health...
Closing the Loop
Hosted by University of Vermont

This was SAR’s most exciting and potentially impactful conference to date - thanks to all who participated!

The conference was organized around the theme of moving toward a world where acupuncture research is organized, coherent and readily accessible to all the relevant stakeholder groups in order to inform evidence-based decision-making.  The goal was to support a reality where integration and cross-pollination can flourish  - in both the intradisciplinary sense between various acupuncture stakeholders -  and the interdisciplinary sense between acupuncture and other health care disciplines.

So we brought multiple stakeholders together to explore:

  • Knowledge and gaps in acupuncture research: What do we know and what do we need to know?
  • Successes and shortcomings in the dissemination and implementation of acupuncture research:  Are we “getting the word out” effectively?
  • How can we work together to address these issues more effectively?
Who was there?
  • Acupuncture Research experts from around the globe (including SAR’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board Member Richard Hammerschlag, PhD)
  • National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) - Director Helene Langevin, MD (plus other NCCIH representatives)
  • Leaders representing insurance providers (including BlueCross BlueShield Vermont and others)
  • The Veterans Administration - Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation
  • Representatives from the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital
  • Representatives from several TCM colleges
  • Representatives from the American Society of Acupuncturists
  • Representatives from the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture
  • Multiple clinical, educational, and patient advocacy groups
  • And many more...
