Emerging Pathways in Science: Why Do This Research?

SAR invites emerging and aspiring researchers to share their personal pathways to acupuncture research — and their vision for its future. This is your opportunity to speak to a full international conference audience about what draws you to this field and where you believe the science is headed.

The Junior Researcher Panel is a featured session at the SAR 2027 Conference, designed to amplify voices that are shaping the next generation of acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) research.

What to Expect

The Junior Researcher Panel will take place on Thursday, April 29, 2027 as part of the main conference program.

Panel Structure
"Emerging Pathways in Science: Why Do This Research?"
The session will comprise three 10-minute presentations, followed by a 30-minute group discussion with the audience. Panelists will speak about their individual pathways to acupuncture research and their vision for the future of the field. Presentations must be made in person (though attendees may participate virtually).

What We'd Like to Hear From You

Your presentation should address one or both of the following questions. We encourage you to speak authentically about your own experience and perspective.

  • Why are you passionate about engaging in acupuncture research?
  • What excites you about this educational and career path?

All Levels Welcome — PhD Not Required

Emerging and aspiring researchers at all levels are encouraged to apply. A doctoral degree is not required.

We particularly welcome voices that have been historically underrepresented in research publications, including racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. SAR is committed to building a panel that reflects the full diversity of the research community.

If you have questions about your eligibility, please email info@acupunctureresearch.org — we are happy to help.

Criteria for Selection

Panelists will be selected based on the following criteria.

What is your background and engagement with acupuncture or TEAM research so far? This may include formal training, clinical work, research roles, or personal connection to the field.
