Advancing Whole Person Health

The SAR 2027 International Research Conference brings together basic, translational, and clinical research communities as a crossroads for advancing acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM). The 2027 conference, "From Needles to Networks," advances a Whole Person Health (WPH) framework across all programming — exploring how acupuncture and TEAM interventions affect interconnected body systems and how those effects translate into durable health outcomes for people living with pain and chronic conditions.

We invite submissions from researchers, clinicians, and educators worldwide. Submissions from individuals from historically underrepresented groups — including racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds — are especially encouraged.

Abstract Submissions

Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations reporting original research on acupuncture and TEAM. Topics may include:

  • Clinical research (efficacy, effectiveness, safety, implementation)
  • Basic science (mechanisms, physiology, neuroimaging)
  • Research methodology (study design, outcomes, biostatistics)
  • Herbal medicine, moxibustion, Tai Chi, Tui Na, Qi Gong, and other TEAM modalities
  • Education, care innovation, and clinical delivery models
All abstracts must include a 2–3 sentence lay summary relevant to clinical practice. Abstracts will be reviewed by SAR's Scientific Review Committee and assigned to either oral or poster presentation. Oral presenters must confirm their participation by December 4, 2026. Select posters will be invited to present a future SAR webinar to SAR's global audience. Conference registration is required for all presenters and in-person attendance is required for oral presentations.
Late-Breaking Abstracts: Highly meritorious and timely research will be accepted through January 4, 2027 for poster presentation only.

Symposia & Workshop Submissions

SAR invites the broader research and clinical community to propose community member-initiated symposia and post-conference workshops. Submissions should reflect high-quality research and address how findings inform evidence-based practice. The Program Committee will select the most meritorious proposals.

Priority will be given to topics that relate to the 2027 conference theme: "From Needles to Networks: Advancing Whole Person Health Through Acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine."

Topic areas may include (but are not limited to):

  • Interventions: acupuncture techniques, herbal medicine, moxibustion, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Tui Na, complex lifestyle modification
  • Health conditions: chronic pain, oncology, women's health, aging, metabolic and cardiovascular disease
  • Research methods: neuroimaging, systems biology, mixed-methods research, AI and data science
  • Dissemination and implementation: teaching research in TEAM institutions, global research dissemination, practitioner-facing translation
Accepted symposia and workshop organizers will receive detailed instructions after notification. Conference registration is required for all presenters and in-person attendance is required for oral presentations. Presenters must confirm their participation by December 4, 2026.

Which Submission Form Should I Use?

We use two separate submission forms. Please read the descriptions below carefully before submitting — using the wrong form is one of the most common submission errors and may delay review of your work.

Abstract Oral or Poster Presentation You are reporting on one study, with one presenter.
  • One study or project
  • One lead presenter
  • Assigned to oral or poster track by reviewers

⚠️  Most Common Submission Error

Submitting a single study through the Symposia/Workshop form. If you are presenting your own research from one study, use the Abstract form, not the Symposia/Workshop form. The Symposia/Workshop form is only for organizers who are coordinating a multi-presenter session on a shared topic.
